Stratum

short film and composition

Named after the geological term for a single layer of sediment, Stratum attempts to dissolve time and space, merging the abstract and the concrete in order to dive beyond the human lifespan into layers of rock. The volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote, which are very recent from a geological perspective, thereby become places where human existence plays only a marginal role.

An audio-visual extension to the album What Happens At Night, this visual work examines both the materiality of the ground beneath our feet in close-up as well as zoomes out as far as the horizon to reveal shapes and layers that have been formed over millenia.
